DERATING FARM LANDS.

INFLUENCING MINISTERS. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WHANGAREI. Thursday. A novel proposal for impressing the importance of derating upon legislators was proposed at a meeting of (he Whangarei sub-provincial executive of the New Zealand Farmers' Union to-day by the Waikiekie branch, in a remit that every member of the union in the Auckland Province be asked to write on the subject each week to a Minister of the Crown.

Mr. Babe, in supporting the remit, said extreme measures were justifiable in fighting for the cause of derating, and he was sure that the necessary end would be attained by bringing the question constantly under the notice of the Government. Mr. Worthington, Mararetu, said he thought, that the proposal would antagonise many who had already been favourably impressed by the movement. As an amendment, lie moved that branch secretaries be asked to write to the Ministers of the Crown advocating derating, after securing as many signatures from farmers as was possible. Mr. Chetham said he thought that it would bo advisable for the secretary to do the writing, as otherwise about one in 250 would comply with the suggestion, and the rest would forget about it. The amendment was carried.
