OBITUARY.
MR. JOSEPH MILLAR. Tho death has occurred of Mr. Joseph Millar, who was well known in the Hastings and Drury districts, at the age of 67 years. Mr. Millar came to New Zealand from Ireland, arriving in this country about 27 years ago. He was engaged in farming near Hastings for about 20 years and then came north. He took over a farm on tho Great South Road, about two miles from Papakura and a mile from Drury, and had resided there since. He is survived by his widow and a daughter. MR. G. C. CLOTHIER. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HAMILTON, Thursday. Tho death occurred yesterday at his home, Oakley Avenuo. Claudelands, of Mr. Geoige Charles Clothier, aged 72. Born at Kaiapoi, Mr. Clothier farmed in North Canterbury for a number of years. After a railway accident, in which lie lost tho use of both logs, he went to To Aroha, wliero he kept a boarding house. Ho was at one time president of tho Te Aroha Bowling Club. Ho is survived by a widow. MR W. M. CALDWELL. [tIKI.M OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT. J SUVA. J,in. '2 Mr. W. M. Caldwell, a well-known Indian ex-civil servant, died in his sleep recently. He retired from the Indian Department some three months ago. He was a highly-educated man, and had graduated B.A. at tho Madras University, and before coining to Fiji had been headmaster of tho Madras High School. An unfortunate incident occurred in connection with tho funeral of Mr. Caldwell. Two sons wero employed far away in Labasa, on tho island of Vanua Levu. It was decided to send an aeroplane to bring the two boys to tho funeral. But when Captain Fenlon reached Labasa ho found that tho combined weights of tho two wore too much for his machine, and so one had to stay behind. The funeral was largely attended bv members of all races.
