CHANGED NEW YEAR.
INTRODUCTION INTO CHINA. MUCH PUBLIC OPPOSITION. SHANGHAI, Jan. 1. Striking preparations have been made to celebrate the New Year according to the solar calendar instead of the lunar year. Officials are determined to mark the change with considerable festivity. Nevertheless, the masses are strongly adhering to the old system and are refusing to observe the foreign New \ear, in spite of the Government's threats of lines and possible imprisonment for those who refuse to accept the reform.
