RIDER THROWN HEAVILY.
HORSE FALLS AT HURDLE.
[BY TELEGRAHI.— OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WIIAKATANE, Friday.
While taking part in a jumping contest at the Te Teko sports yesterday, the horse Mr. M. Wcigel, of Otamarakau, was riding, fell at the second hurdle and was injured so severely that it had to be destroyed. Mr. Weigel was thrown clear, but was rendered unconscious. He was taken to th« Whakatane Hospital and recovered sufficiently to return to his home this afternoon.
