Mrs. Agatha Christie, the well-known writer of detective stories, was recently married to Mr. M. E. L. Mallowan. After their honeymoon they intended to go to Ur of tho Chaldees, where Mr. Mallowan, who is one of the assisfcmts of Mr. Leonard Wool ley, head of the archaeological department of the British Museum, is engaged in excavation work.
Lalla Rookli, tho heroine of Thomas Moore's poem named after her and published in 1817, was the supposed daughter of Aurungzebe, Emperor \)f Delhi. She was betrothed to the Sultan Aliris of Lesser Bucharia, and on a journey to Cashmere fell. in love with a young Persian poet who turned out to be the sultan to whom she was betrothed.
