ELAEOCARPUS CYANEUS.

Among tho few flowering trees in bloom at present is the Elaeocarpus cyaneus, an Australian species, a small treo with handsome foliage. It is covered with a profusion of white flowers in racemes, resembling lily-of-the-valley. These are followed by bunches of conspicuous blue berries. This useful flowering tree is easily propagated from seeds. It is quite hardy and succeeds in almost any soil. The seedlings germinate from seeds distributed by birds, otherwise they should be grown in pots, as they are difficult to transplant from the open ground. The Now Zealand species, Elaeocarpus dentatus (the hindu), is a similar tree, with numerous drooping racemes of white flowers. Both species are deserving of extended cultivation in shrubberies and ornamental plantations. At present they are rarely seen.
