OBITUARY.
MR. G. E. BOWLES. The death occurred at. 2, Ligar Street, Grafton, yesterday, of Mr. George Edwin Bowles, a former locomotive inspector in the Railways Department. Mr. Bowles was born in Kent, England, 71 years ago. and arrived in New Zealand at tlio age of 13. He joined the railways service in August. 1875, and retired as locomotive inspector in May, 1922, having had 47 years' service with Ihe department. During the visit of the Prince of Wales to New Zealand in 1920 Mr. Bowles super- | vised the whole of the locomotive ar- ! rangements from Auckland to the Bluff j and was highly complimented by the. j Prince of Wales. Mr. Bowles was twice ! married and is survived by his wife and a grown-up family. MRS. G. H. DALZELL. [BY TELEGIUm. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HAMILTON, Friday. The death occurred yesterday of Mrs. Gertrude Helen Dalzell, of Oha'upo Road", Hamilton, at tlio age of 76 years. Mrs! Dalzell was born in Manchester, and came to Now Zealand in 1856 with her parents Mr. and Mrs. J. Hardy. After her marriage in 1878 Mrs. Dalzell lived in Oaniaru. She had lived in Hamilton sinco 1918. Mr. Dalzell died some years ago. Mrs. Dalzell is survived by four daughters, Mrs. R. Rankin, of Zanzibar, Africa, Mrs. A. Montgomerie, of Hamilton. and Misses J. Dalzell and V. Dalzell, of Hamilton. MR. HENRY BROWNLEE. [BY TELEGRArU.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] THAMES. Friday. The death occurred to-day of Mr. Henry Brownlee, aged 65, one of'the last of tho older miners of the Thames field. Born at Gate Pa, Tauranga, Mr. Brownlee ramo to Thames at an early age. Later in life he was mine manager of "several claims. Ho was keenly interested in volunteering, being prominent in tho Thames naval brigade when whaleboat racing was the vogue. He was a founder of the Thames Rugby Union and tho City Football Club and was a representative player for Thames and Auckland, being a member of the old Short land and Wanderers' ' Clubs. Mr. Brownlee married the late ! Miss Annie \V. Henderson, of Henderson. He is survived by three sons, Messrs. I George Brownlee, of W'anganui, and Henry ! and Ernest Brownlee, of Thames, and one daughter, Mrs. J. Hill, of Thames.
