OUTER-SUBURBAN TOURNEY. RAIN CAUSES POSTPONEMENT. The second day's play in the Auckland C grade and Outer Suburban championship tournament had only been commenced for half an hour yesterday when steady rain set in and continued until 1 p.m., when the committee decided to cancel play for the day. The players have been granted the privilege of continuing the tournament on the Stanley Street courts instead of the Domain courts. It is intended to carry on to-day from the point where play ceased yesterday and in order to get through all events on the day players have been requested to be on the courts at 9 a.m. sharp, all those not present by 9.30 a.m. rendering themselves liable to disqualification. No matches were completed yesterday, but following are the results of those in progress:— Men's Singles.—Third round : Chalmers v. Prendergast, Chalmers leading, 6 —l, 5—4 ; O'Connor v. Porter, O'Connor leading, 6—4, 3—l. Ladies' Singles.—Miss Savin v. Miss Waters, Miss Savin leading, 6—2, 2—3; Miss Bryant v. Miss Ellett, Miss Bryant leading, 6—4, o—2. AUCKLAND LADIES' TEAM. MATCH WITH WELLINGTON. [by telegraph.—press ASSOCIATION. ] "WELLINGTON, Friday. Play in the women's tennis contest for the Nunneley Casket, between Auckland and Wellington, was commenced today. Results were as follows, Auckland players being mentioned first: — Singles —Miss Ramsay lost to Miss Nicholls, 5—7, 2—6; Miss Whitelaw lost to Mrs. Adams, I—6, o—6; Miss Macfarlane beat Mrs. Melody, 6—4, 6—2;, Miss Knight beat Miss North, 2—6, 6—4, 11—9 » Doubles. —Misses Knight and Whitelaw lost to Miss Nicholls and Mrs. Adams, 2—6, 6- 3, 3—6', Misses Macfarlane and Ramsay lost to Mrs. Melody and Miss North. 3—6, 5 —7. Wellington has won 4 matches and 73 games, and Auckland 2 matches and 58 games. There are still six matches to ho decided, and play will start to morrow at 1.30 p.m. The most exciting single of the day was that between Miss North and Miss Knight. Miss Knight lost the first set. won the second and brought off a splendid last minute recovery after being I—s down in the third set.
