The Ellerslie racing carnival was conrliiflfd yesterday, heavy showers of rain jn the enrly part of (lie day making the track slower than 011 (lie. preceding days. 'Night inarch won the weight-for-agc race, the Clifford Plate, and Ammon Pa the Royal Stakes, while the Grandstand Handicap, the leading handicap event, was won by Corinax, and the Bowen Handicap by Prince Yal. There were two notable surprises, Patutahi winning the Grey Handicap, to pay the second largest dividend of the meeting, while Master Lu, ninth favourite in a field of ten, scored easily in tho Auckland Htirdlo l>;ice. / The weather affected tho attendance, which was 14,000, compared with 20,000 on tho fourth day last year. The totalisator handled £56,023 10s, compared with £84,761 10s on the corresponding day last year, a decrease of £28,738.
