DECREASE FOR THE YEAR.

MORE MOTOR SPIRIT IMPORTED. LESS BEER DUTY PAID. Tho fulling off in the monthly .customs revenue collected in -Auckland, which has been noted since July, continued in December, and swelled the aggregate decrease for the year to £234,759. In 1929 tho total collected was £254.511 greater than that of the previous year. The total customs duty in 1930 was £2,172.048, as compared with £2,406,807 levied in 1929. Tho December figures were £164,656 for 1930 and £206,8:53 for 1929. Taking customs, motor spirit and tyro duty together the total for tl.e past year was £2,627,839, or nearly £150,000 short of the 1929 total of £2,775,301. Customs revenue for the past 12 months, compared with the corresponding period in 1929, is as follows:

The amount of motor spirits duty, on the other hand, lias continued to show a marked increase, and last month's figure of £46,267 showed an advance of £16.085 on the figure for December, 1929. Tho increase for the year amounts to £94,385, the respective figures being £419,855 and £325,470. There was a slight decrease in the December tvre duty figures from £4539 in 1929 to £4219 in 1930. The customs revenue in December totalled £231,714, as against £267,659 for December, 1929. The motor-spirit duty collected in December was £43,533, as against £27,150 for December, 1929, the figures for the 12 months being respectively £443,867 and £378.914. The tyre tax last month totalled £3516. as against £4545 in 1929, and for the 12 months the figures were £39,032 and £58.135. The beer exciso for December was £6600, compared with £7382 for December, 1929. For the 12 months the figures are £56,685 and £54,411. RETURNS AT CHRISTCHURCH. FIGURES SHOW DECREASE. [by telegraph.—press association.] CHRISTCHURCH, Wednesday. The customs returns at Christchurch for December totalled £72,899, a decrease of £11,709, compared with December, 1929. Beer duty totalled £9037, a decrease. of £755, and motor spirit tax £20,421, an increase of £7,849. The tyro duty totalled £I44C, an increase of £l6B. The figures for the December quarter, with those for the same quarter of 1929 in parentheses, are : —Customs, £237,427 (£298,614); beer duty, £22,342 (£26.550); motor spirit tax. £59,752 (£38.568); tyro duty, £3788 (£4860). DECREASE IN DUNEDIN. HIGHER PETROL REVENUE. [by telegraph.—press association.] DUNEDIN, Thumday. The customs revenue for December was £51,743, compared with £62,402 last, year. The beer duty totalled £21.160 (£22,806 last year), tyres £1357 (£449). petrol £15,294 (£8511).
