OUTER SUBURBAN TOURNEY.

C GRADE CHAMPIONSHIPS. RESULTS OF FIRST DAY. The annual championship tournament for outer-suburban clubs and Auckland C grade players, conducted under tho auspices of the Auckland Lawn Tennis Association. wa3 commenced yesterday on tho association's Domain courts. Although the entry list wa3 rot as largo as last year, probably owing to many peoplo being on holiday, most of tho leading outer-suburban players wero participating and many keen and hard fought struggles resulted. Play in tho ladies' singles events has now reached tho semi-final stage, and two very keen contests should bo seen this morning between Miss Bryant and Miss Ellett and Miss Waters and Miss Suvin. The former contest should bcb somo forceful play, as both players possess good drives. The youthful Miss Savin played fine tennis to win her first two rounds, and' she is likely to causo her more experienced opponents considerable anxiety in this event. Tho day's play reduced tho men's singles to eight contestants and on form there does not appear to bo any of these outstanding, and much hard play should be soon before tho winner evolves. Most of the games yesterday wero in the singles events, and, considering that play was delayed on three occasions on account of showers, good progress was made. To-day's play should just about see the completion of tho tournament, although one or two of the finals will probably be hold over until to-morrow.
