BERLIN. Dec. 29. After complaining to his wife that his week's wages of 32s were too small, Ernst Gehrmann put on his best clothes and returned to the steel works at Cologne, where ho was employed. He lighted a cigar and stool near the mixing crucible, which was full of molten metals. As the cover of the crucible was lifted Gehrmann, still smoking, suddenly mounted the staging and jumped into the glowing mass. He was immediately incinerated.
