VISIT TO TASMANIA.

COMBINED FLEET EXERCISES.

DUNEDIN GOING TO ENGLAND.

A visit to Hobart will be made by the warships Dunedin and Diorriede early in February, and in March the flag of Commodore Ceoffrey Blake will be transferred from the Dunedin to the Diomede and a number of changes in personnel will bo made. The Dunedin will then sail for Sydney , and England under the command of Captain M. J. C. de Meric. She is duo to arrive at Chatham early in May to undergo an extended refit. The Dunedin will dock from January 20 to 23, and will remain in port until February 3, when she and tho Diomede will probably leave for Russell to carry out exercises before sailing for Hobart to meet tho Australian Squadron. Tho two cruisers are expected to spend about 14 days at Hobart or in its vicinity, and during that time the New Zealand and Australian wai ships will engage in exercises. ' The Diomede will probably return to New Zealand waters immediately after her visit to Hobart, and the ship's company will carry out the annual musketry oourse at Wellington in April. Prior to the Australian trip she will leave for the Hauraki Gulf on January 20 for about a week, returning to Auckland in time for the anniversary regatta on January 29, when the whole squadron will be in port. Tho Veronica, which spent - Christmas at Wellington, will return to Auckland on January 26, calling en route at Tauranga and Kawau. She will leave Auckland again on February 2, and will carry out a cruise in New Zealand waters. She will visit Napier, New Plymouth, Wanganui, Dunedin, Akaroa, Lyttelton, Picton and Wellington, returning to Auckland on May 7.
