The Canterbury Pork Trotting Club's Summer Meeting will be opened at Addington to. morrow and with fields of good Quality fine sport should be provided. The acceptances are us follows:

While a number of the best horses are in Auckland at present there is plenty of material available to make the racing thoroughly interesting at the Canterbury Park meeting 6n New Year's Day. Principal interest will centre in the Canterbury Park Handicap, in which 11 horses are'engaged, while there should also be keen competition in the Stewards' and Au Revoir Handicaps. The unhoppled trotters in the Introductory Handicap do not represent a very good lot, but several hnvo shown sonic promise in several of their engagements. Mountain Mist is a useful sort, of which the best has not been seen. At Ashburton Mickey Audubon began very quickly, only to fade out in tho Inst half-mile. The distanco to-morrow should suit him hotter. Stand By, Silurian, Rusllo and Great Nelson are possibilities. The finish may bo between Mickey Audubon, Mountain Mist and Great Nelson. Lindbergh won the Ashburton Cup in good stylo from n 4.30 mark and now on 4.28 his chances cunnot be ignorod. He is a good stayer and tho two miles journey.

ADDINGTON CANDIDATES

EL DIRECT AND GREAT AUTHOR.

Three horses who wore very much in the limelight nt the Haw'era meeting last -taster claim engagements at Addington to-morrow, and form points to the trio being well in the picture. Those referred to are the pacern El Direct and Great Author and tho young trotter Olive Nelson. After winning at Hawera El Direct went on to Dunedin, where he won the saddle double in great style. Thiß season ho raced several times without prominence, but at tho last Forbury Park meeting he chased the good horse John Noble home in a 10furlongs flutter. Olive Nelson trotted fane races at Addington last month for win and a second, while Groat Author has just coinpleted a dual success at Westport. To-morrow Great Author is in tho Lyttolton Handicap, and whilo penalised 24yds. for his West Coast victories, ho will take a lot of boating. Olive Nelson will meet some good trotters in "White Satin and Stanley T in the Stewards' Trot, but the Karamea mare is capable of holding her own in such society. El Direct figures in_ tho Islington Handicap, in which there is a fi.no lot of speedy pacers engaged, but whatever heads him off ohould get tho money.
