NEW YORK. Dec. 29 On the New York Stock Exchange today Commonwealth 5 per cents., 1955, were quoted at 70 3-8; 1957 at 71; 4£ per cents, at 64 3-8; New South Wales 5 per cents., 1957, at 63; 1953 at 62; Queensland 6 per .cents, at 78£; 7 per cents, at 91.

IMPERIAL COMMUNICATIONS

FALL IN TRAFFIC RECEIPTS.

Tho improvement in the traffic receipts of Imperial and International Communications, Limited, shown in the returns for September and October was not sustained in November. Tho lowest total this year was £411,090 in August, and the daily average for that month, £13,260, was also" the lowest. The September return showed a total of £424,138, equivalent to £14,140 daily, and the October return £446,097, or £14,390 daily. The receipts in November fell to £402,886, a new low record this year. The daily average, however, is £13,429, which is slightly higher than the August figure. Tho corresponding return for last year was £512,163, equivalent to £17,072 daily. Tho aggregate revenue for 11 months has been £4,929,154, as against £5,628,629 last year.

JUTE MILLS AGREEMENT.

RESTRICTING PRODUCTION.

In a circular letter dated November 8 Hoare. Miller and Company, Limited, of Calcutta, report that the committee of the Jutp Mills Association met. at the end of October to consider replies to a circular letter asking members for opinions on several plans for causing higher prices for jute goods. Replies from most members signified their approval of the existing agreement, which is that working hours should not be reconsidered until February 15, and that a compulsory holiday of one week in each month should be observed. Discussions were proceeding when the report was issued, and an effort was then being mndo to fix minimum selling prices and to arrange an agreement for present working hours to continue until September, 1931, unless trade improved. The discussions caused some speculative buying of cornsacks for delivery up to September of next year.

SYDNEY WOOL SALES

PRICE OVER PAST SIX MONTHS.

Wool has sold readily during the halfyear's Sydney sales, which closed on December iB. Over the period 90 per cent, of the quantity offered has sold at auction and the market has certainly not been overloaded with wool. On many occasions when much larger offerings have been niado considerably higher prices have been realised. The figures below show (he quantity of wool sold on the market from July 1 to the Christmas recess during the past five years, and the averago prico greasy obtained: —
