VICAR'S RESIGNATION.
RAPID GROWTH OF PARISH
The Rev. Harold R. Jecks, who is resigning his chargo of the parish of New Lynn, conducted largely-attended farewell services last Sunday. He. took charge of his present parish, which included New Lynn and Titirangi, 16 years ago, and ha has seen the work develop very rapidly. In 1913 there was no church building, and only a hrndful of people attended the services, which were held in the public school. The following year a small church building was opened and the committee subsequently bought a large hall at Glen Eden and moved it to New Lynn, where it was used as a Sunday School and church hall.
To meet the grcwing needs of the population a, church was erected in Nikau Street in 1925, and there Sunday School and church services were held. 'ln 1927 the first church building was replaced by a much larger brick one, and there are now about 150 communicants in the district, with a church roll of between 200 and 250 families.
The farewell services on Sunday were attended by members of the New Lynn Borough Council, and Mr. Jecks was afterwards presented with a silver communion set. Mrs. Jecks received from appreciative parishioners a) silver-mounted brush and comb and a set of teaspoons. Mr. Jecks will be succeeded by the Rev. Harold Heaslip, who is to take charge in January.
