HOLIDAY WEATHER.

Magnificent holiday weather has so far been experienced and many thousands of people, released from the ties of duty and the tasks of school, are finding full opportunity to seek their heart's desire in the way of rest and recreation. It is some years since the weather was so propitious for tho holidays. Old Aucklanders call it a "real old-time Christmas," and although some allowance perhaps may have to be made on the score of the common tendency to applaud the days of one's youth, there is no question that the bright burst of summer weather affords some justification for the claim. Such days are the kind of tonic most people need after the very indifferent spring, and Aucklanders are taking full measure of it. Apart from the great crowds who have attended the sporting functions, as. great a number are finding their pleasure in simple fashion on the beaches, in camps and on the gulf. Some succeed in combining the simple life with the sporting life. Financial resources may have placed a new limit upon the scope of the holiday for many, but, nevertheless, there are few people indeed who have not been able to enjoy fresh air and absorb new energy from the sun. The effect has caused many a one to reflect upon the fact that much of the best in life comes from Nature, and when Nature smiles in her present mood, the habit of worry, which is the enemy of health, is difficult to maintain. Without avoiding the serious responsibilities which have arisen with the times, Aucklanders are taking their pleasures gladly and are so fitting themselves for the better discharge of their task in the new year. It is particularly gratifying to all people that the children are finding healthful happiness in the great out-of-doors, and even if rain should come, as the weather watchers suggest, it does not follow that the warmth will depart nor that the remainder of the holidays will be spoiled. The suntanned population feels that life goes very well in spite of the depression.
