THREE TENDERS RECEIVED.

OFFERS BEING CONSIDERED.

HOPE OF DAILY RUNNING.

[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. J - WELLINd*toN, Wednesday. Three tenders have so far been received by the Government for the carriage of mails by air between Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Duuedin, accord, ing to a statement made by the Posti master-General, the Hon. J. B. Donald, to-day. Two of these tenders have been received from New Zealand companies and the other from Australia.

It is possible that a fourth will be received from a New Zealand firm and ifc is hoped to bring the question to finality within the next few days. The Government is not prepared to grant a straight-out subsidy for the service to the successful tenderer,, but the company will be allowed to retain the receipts from the sale of air stamps, less a percentage to cover the cost of transporting the mail between the airports and the post office.^. The contract will be given to a British company and preferably a local concern, and a stipulation will bo that the machine used shall be the tri-motored type. According to a recent statement by Mr* Donald, the aeroplanes will run to a schedule approved by the postal authorities. It is expected that the machines will carry about 5001b. of mail and five or six passengers. Such aeroplanes ara in common use in Australia, England, the United States and on the Continent. It is hoped that a daily service will be maintained each way.
