TAKANINI TRACK NEWS.

IN THE SHADE'S GALLOP.

TE AWAMUTU TRIP LIKELY.

BREAKDOWN OF TREASURY. Fine weather and a fast track at Takanini yesterday found most of the horses who galloped recording really good times. The inner grass wus used for nearly all the fast work and it was in perfect order. The distances covered would be exactly those mentioned, as the horses galloped close to the inside fringe of the track.

In the Shade (Jones) was to have galloped nine furlongs, with Ti Tree to join in over the last mile. Ti Tree was not ready for the pick-up, and, after travelling a furlong, In the Shade's rider tried to pull him up, but failed, and he continued on to complete the nine furlongs. He ran the last six in 1.21 2-5.

In the Shade moved freoly throughout. There is now every chance that he will keep his To Awamutu Cup engagement, in which R. S. Bagby will be his pilot. Chief Joy (Jones) and Havaspot (Stewart) went very fast in the early Btages of a sixfurlongs gallop to record 35s for the first three furlongs. They were kept up to it to finish in 1.14 3-5, with little between them at the end. The early pace told its tale and both horses were tired at tho end. In spite of this, it was a very satisfactory effort on the part of both. Chief Joy had a little the better of the weights, but both Stewart and Jones are light boys. Chief Jewel beats Tea Chat.

Chioi Jewel (Stewart) had a length and a-half to spare when ho beat Tea Chat (Jones) over five furlongs in 1.2 2-5, the first two furlongs taking 245. Chief Jewel has done well since winning at Takapuna and ho Bhould again show up at the Ellcrslie meeting.

Amnion Ra (Crowley) jumped away after passing the five-furlongs disc and ran home the last half-mile in 63 2-ss. Ammon Ra hit out freely and did his work without being punished. He went round to tho starting-post very quietly and appears to be settling down nicely. Smithfield (Jones) and Clopton (Stewart) had a good set-to at the finish of six furlongs, over which they finished on terms in 1.15 3-5, the first three taking 38s. As neither of this pair is noted fo.r speed, it will be recognised that the track is exceptionally fast. This was Smithfield's best effort to date, his previous track displays not being above the ordinary. Refresher and Treasury. Refresher (Stewart) had a slight call over Treasury (Jones) at tho end of five furlongs in 1.3. Refresher is again working well and seems to Buffer no discomfort from his injured hock. After working Treasury was found to have gono amiss, the trouble being in the ligament. Jamicson will not persevere with him and he will go into the paddock for a spell. On the plough Vandyke (Crowley) did strong work to sprint the last couple of furlongs in 26a, Ho is to race at Waipa on Saturday. His track work has been satisfactory, without being exceptional, but it remains to be seen whether lie will leave the barrier correctly. He seems much quieter than formerly, but tho problem is whether ho will maintain his calmness on race day. After breakfast Columba and the Pombal— Leta gelding sprinted three furlongs in 39 4-6e. without being fully extended. Both these juveniles are progressing, but neither is yet forward enough to warrant being considered for an early race. After having an easy time for a week or two, Magic Mint was on the track yesterday with the rest of C. Morse's teata. He has freshened up since racing at Whangarei, NEW PLYMOUTH TRACK NOTES. GOLD DAWN'S IMPROVEMENT. [by telegraph.—own correspondent.] NEW PLYMOUTH, Wednesday. The trial grass track was reopened yesterday after a good spell, and nearly all the fast work took place there, although one or two horses went on tho plough, which is in fine order. Sparkling Morn moved nicely over three furlongs in 395. Crennatown went half a mile, the last three furlongs taking 39Js. He did his task well.' Singer was not hurried to cover seven furlongs on the plough in 1.42. Orapai and Te Atiawa went six furlongs in 1.22. Orapai was going nicely all the way and did it easily, but To Atiawa stopped badly over tho last bit. Manly and Omeo, going easily, took 1.9} for five. Manly appeared to be doing it a littlo better than his companion.

Gold Dawn again worked'attractively over five furlongs in 1.5 2-5 She appears to bo much improved this season. Lady Quex, going easily, took 1.5 4-5 for five furlongs. Lady Lulu was .to have gone with her over the last three furlongs, but her rider could not hold her and she was always many lengths in front. Easter Time got much the better of the etart in a three furlongs spin with Gibraltar, but tho latter finished very resolutely and was only a neck away at th® finish in 37 4-ss, a good gallop. Royal Finance was to have gone seven, but she was not in a tractable mood and refused to hop off and it was not until tbo five furlongs peg was reached that she got going. Even then she did not go kindly and took 1.75 for live. Hinepuni was doing it better than Little Doubt over three in 38 l-ss. Annoyer was given easy exercise. He is being givon swimming exercise in the afternoons and is improving quickly. MR. GAISFORD'S HORSES. PRICES AT AUCTION SALE. [by telegraph.—own correspondent.] WOODVILLE. Wednesday. Gregory, of Clivo, bought the lot. Roundelay wus sold privately later. TRAINING AT HAWERA. SILVERMINE PROMINENT. [BY TKLEGRArn. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HAWERA, Wednesday. Weather conditions wore again ideal for training operations on tho Egmont course yesterday, all the tracks boing in great order. Coal Bag and Tcntcall did half a mile in 51s. The Lackham— Lady Moor two-year-old and Richland were sent along four furlongs, doing the distance in sls, with the former showing to advantage, Calamine wont five furlongs with Denier in 1.3}. Kissless, accompanied by Gowan Lea, was sent five furlongs on tho plough, registering 1.4 for the distance. Hotnewood jumped four of the schooling hurdles, going very straight and giving a splendid exhibition of good, clean jumping. Paparua and Summertime sprinted from tho six-furlong post to the three on tho outside of tho course proper in 38{a, with the former doing better. Bon Eve showed to advantage with Miss Sheff over ,the same distance in 1.20. Silvermine, Banbridge and Gasnapper were companions in a spin over six furlongs, the first-named showing to advantage over Banbridge, with Gasnapper well tailed off. The time registered was I.lß—a nice trial.
