PRIZE JERSEY CATTLE.

RELEASE FROM QUARANTINE.

NEW BLOOD FOR DOMINION.

The consignment of 19 Jersey cattle, which was brought to Auckland from New York by the steamer Ashburton on October 28, was released" from quarantine on Motuihi Island on Monday and conveyed by a ferry steamer to the city. The cattle were later sent by rail to Hamilton, and wijl be offered at auction at Claudelands to-day.

The shipment is claimed to bo the most valuablo ono brought to tho Dominion, comprising one of tho finest groups of cattlo seen here. The cattle, which originally were sent from Jersey Island to tho United States, were consigned by tho American importers, Messrs. T. S. Cooper and Sons, to Wright, Stephenson and Company, Limited, who make an annual shipment. They were selected on Jersey Island early in tho year by Mr. T. S- Cooper, jun., of the Uinied States, Mr. J. A. Perree, of Jersey Island, and Mr. H. P. Toose, of New Zealand. After over a month's careful inspection 15 head were chosen. They -wore pastured for six months in tho United States before being shipped to New Zealand, and in tho meantime four calves were born. Ten of tho cattle, which were of an age to exhibit when on the island, have won between them soino 40 .prizes. The animals are of an excellent type, and are bred from the best strains.

The New Zealand regulations for tho importation of cattle provide for a period of quarantine, at tho end of which time the cattle are examined by the Agricultural Department before being landed.
