The Governor-General, Lord Bledisloe, and Lady Bledisloe, paid an official visit to Masterton to-day, and were welcomed at a gathering in the Town Hall in the morning, and entertained at luncheon, at which there was a representative attendance from all parts of the Wairarapa district.

In the afternoon .Thp.ir Excellencies attended a gathering of school children in the park, and visited: the secondary schools and the public hospital. Speaking afc the luncheon Lord Bledisloa touched upon the scope in New Zealand for the development of the land, of which there were large -areas which had yet to be scientifically surveyed, and which were quite capable of economic and remunerative development under ordinary i conditions.

Every effort must be made to assure that the output of relatively small areas of fertile land would to constitute an attractive living to some of the more enterprising young agriculturists.
