CHILD WELFARE ACT.

SOME ASPECTS CRITICISED.

DEPUTATION TO MINISTER.

Some aspects of the Child Welfare Act were brought under the attention of the Minister of Education, the Hon. H. Atmoro, yesterday, by Mrs. M. B. Soljak and Mrs. E. Gibson, who formed a deputation from the Women's International League of Peace and Freedom. The speakers claimed that the State was taking control of too many children, who could in many cases be better looked after by their own parents. It was also claimed that the methods of judging the characters of the children were wrong, while the terms were too drastic and too final.

After hearing the deputation, the Minister promised a full investigation into the matter.
