Original. By MAVIS JB. PADGET (15). Tinopai. Kaipara. Mrs., Jynkyns one day made a double batch of buns, Such lovely golden, crisp and spicy, eat-me-quickly ones. Said she, as in the tin she packed them, layer on top of layer, " They ought to last mo quite a while. 'Tis fuil, I do declare. On deed well done is better far than quite a few done wrong." She made a cup of tea, and then the. doorbell went "Ting! Tong!"
" Mrs. Jynkyns, I've just come along to pay you an afternoon call." Do you think sho smelt those buns from over tho garden wall ? They ate quite a few with their cups of tea, while time went slowly past. The littlo Jynkyns, home from school, ran up the path at last, Marshall, Mary, Keith and Joan, with appetites so hearty, Just helped themselves to buns, and Dot took some for her dolls' tea-party;
Bob and Ken came home from work, to climb the nearest hill, They took with them some sandwiches and buns (as all boys will). Father brought the neighbour in to see the big new horse, They had to have a cup of tea and plate of buns, of courso. Morning came, and sister Peg, the children s lunches packed, Some buns went in, and Peg felt that tho lunches nothing lacked.
The children ran away to school, tho rest went off to work, Mrs. Jynkyns, left alone, her duties did not shirk; She dusted, polished, scrubbed and cleaned, till all the work was done. Said she, " I'll have a cup of tea and a lovely, spicy bun." She put her hand into the tin, then jumped back in affright! Horrors! Consternation! That tin was empty, quite!
