EXCESSIVE TIMBER LOADS.
LORRY OWNER FINED. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HAMILTON, Friday. Uncertainty how to plead was expressed by Colin Tuck, timber miller, Hamilton, when charged in the Magistrate's Court to-dily with carrying a load in excess of the classification on the Matangi Road.
Inspector A. I. Maguire stated that the road was classified for loads not exceeding 4£ tons. Defendant had a loajJ of logs on a lorry and trailer. When placed on the weigh-bridge the front wheels weighed lj tons, the back wheels 6' tons and the trailer tons. Defendant said it was exceedingly difficult to estimate the weight of timber loads.
The magistrate replied that arrangements could be made by carriers with the local body for the payment of compensation when heavy loads were carried. Defendant was fined £5.
