POWER BOARD OFFICE.

PROVISION AT PAPATOETOE.

ATTITUDE OF RESIDENTS.

"I do not think we should allow Papatoetoe to dictate our policy." said Mr W. J. Holdsworth, chairman of th» Auckland Power Board, at a meeting of the board yesterday, when a letter was received from the Papatoetoe Chamber of Commerce concerning the erection of a> local office gf the board. "The growth of reserves noted in reports from time to time has created among residents in the district a feeling of resentment that the building of the local office has not been proceeded with, particularly in view of the fact that a direct promise was made by your chairman that the erection would immediately follow the sanctioning of a loan," the letter stated. "The poll was duly carried, aided in no small measure by the action of the chamber." Mr. Holdsworth said it had been the board's intention to erect offices at Papatoetoe, for which a site had been purchased and plans prepared. A staff had been trained, and machines had been bought for the equipment of the office, but the breakdown at Arapuni had made it necessary to revise the whole of the board's position and policy. "I would like it to be remembered that this board has been elected to run the business and to decide its policy," he said. "We know our own business best, and we are in a position to know when our Papatoetoe office should be erected." The letter was received.
