CONCRETING HIGHWAY.
WORK IN MOUNT ROSKILL. BOARD ANXIOUS TO BEGIN. While tho City Council is being urged to find work for the unemployed, the Mount Roskill Road Board has been unable to put its scheme in hand for the concreting of Mount Albert Road owing to the delay of tho Local Government Loans Board in sanctioning tho financial provisions. This led Mr. \V. J. Jordan, M.P. for Manukau, to forward the following telegram to the Minister of Public Works, the Hon. W. B. Tavcrner, yesterday : "Noticing your message to Mr. M. J. Savage, M.P., asking that the Auckland City Council accept the subsidy to relieve unemployment, we ask that ponsideration of the application of the Mount Roskill Road Board to divert money, as approved by Parliament, bo expedited that work may proceed. I brought the matter before you during the session." The Road Board's proposal is to concrete the south side of Mount Albert Road from Sandringham Road to Vincent Road. Tho north side of tho road has already been laid down in concrete by tho Mount Albert Borough Council and tho Sandringham tramway extension will run down tho middle of tho thoroughfare. The total cost of the work is estimated at £3OOO, portion of which will bo borno by the Main Highways Board by way of subsidy. It is not intended to raise a loan for (he work. Special financial arrangements were approved by Parliament and now await the sanction of tho Local Government Loans Board.
