HANDICRAFT EXHIBITION.

THE TRAINING COLLEGE. An exhibition of art and handicraft was held nt the Auckland Training College last evening. Those exhibitions are held at the clos* of each year in order to provide an opportunity for those interested in education, as well as teachers of the city, to keep in touch with the progressive work that is being carried out at the college. There was a large attendance of teachers during the evening. 'Hie Education Department was represented by Mr. W: W. Bird, chief inspector of primary schools, and the local inspectors as well as members of the Auckland Education Board were also present Included in an interesting exhibition of drawings was special work executed hv Miss Ida Carey, the art lecturer. The handiwork, which comprised a wide variety of articles, was typical of what was being clone in most primary and technical schools at present. An interesting feature was the original use to which materials, usually regarded as waste products, were being put. A high standard of excellence was displayed in needlework. On Wednesday the exhibition was viewed by 250 critic teachers, who assist in the work of student-training in the city and suburbs. During the afternoon the opportunity was provided for the teachers to study the various lecturers at the college at work
