A large staff of carpenters and other artisans is' at present busily engaged in carrying out alterations to the Monowai's passenger accommodation, chiefly in the third class. Already the ship has taken on some of the characteristics of a Union liner in her outward appearance. Her hull is being painted green and today one of her two black funnels was paintecl the familiar red with two narrow black rings and a black top. The Monowai is a handsome ship and she will look doubly so when she is ready for sea again.
