A homo without a garden is <i barren and unattractive Icature in any street. It strikes a wrong note, and emphasises the lack of artistry in those who are responsible for so unfortunate an omission. Who ever visioned one of those alluring, lovely stretches of garden, cither in our own beautiful city or beyond it, who did not feel the thrill of nature sweeping uppermost?—a picture not tc be easily forgotten! Gardens, as a rule to-day, are surely " a tiling of beauty and a joy for ever," for wherever one may look they seem to till the landscape in our residential areas. There is nothing monotonous about them. There may be growing many of the same flowers in each, but each has been individually thought out as a rule—different patterns; sometimes different shrubs. And in many there is this and that novelty that lends a piquant grace that charms the senses. From earliest days one has dreamed of the pcifcct gaiden. Some of us love a garden wild and showy. Others prefer one set and trim, according to plan. A few are crazy about a garden in the Italian stvle. There must be a patio or terrace, and all those aristocratic trappings one sees in the pictures of magazines. Terraces with a floor of stone or slate, emerald grass pushing up between the cracks, and lilies bedding in a pool clear as crystal. One almost sees the fairies themselves flitting here and there among the lilies and the slender rustling sedges when the moon shines down. Usu,ally, it is in the garden that women let their fancy mostly play, and, like flic Greeks of old, and even civilisations of earlier times, are occasionally wont to express their emotions through the media of statuary. But such is a luxury that few can indulge in, and so the majority must be content with something less ornate. Those Romantic Bridges. Beyond the whirl of the city areas, outward where the grass and the sedges smell irresistibly sweet and near to nature, one's eyes are sometimes gladdened at the sight of those little rustic bridges under which a gentle stream ripples gently on its way between—the " sweet wild things " that push their way up through the gentle earth. How wonderful is the thrill that gladdens the heart at so rare ;tnd so alluring a sight! There is something about one of these little bridges that speaks of romance and of joyousness—somehow they are redolent of youth and a plight in the moonlight, or a stolen kiss and a pressure of hands. And because of their very witchery, one wonders why they arc not more frequently seen. Why not have a bridge in your garden 1 It needs only a little thought and planning and a few pounds well spent, and there you are.
