UNTRUE NOTICE OF DEATH.
INSERTION BY WOMAN
OWN BURIAL ANNOUNCED
(ry telegraph.—rnEss association.] DUNEDIN, Tuesday.
In the Lawrence Magistrate's Court today Ethel Margaret Fahey, aged 20, pleaded guilty to sending to the newspaper for publication a notice of her death, knowing the same to be untrue.
The girl's statement to the police was that her purpose was to lead a young man in Dunedin to believe sho was dead. This man, she averred, had written threatening to " do for her'' if she did not resume her acquaintance with him. She denied that the advertisement was inserted to mislead her Dunedin creditors.
Her advertisement announced a funeral from Milton and burial at Anderson's Bay. Tho sexton telephoned to the undertakers at Milton, saying he had received no instruction to dig a grave. The magistrate, Mr. H. J. Dixon, ordered the girl to come up for sentence if called upon, remarking that she was not well educated and apparently she was not aware of the seriousness of her action.
