The question of forming a permanent road from Maketu Post Office to tho beach was considered by the Tauranjja County Council. The engineer said the cost would be about £2OO, which would include a sea wall. It was staled that C 25 had been collected by the Maketu people, and £25 would also come from the Arawa Trust Board. Tho road was much used by visitors from Rolorua. The council decided to grant £25 toward the road, provided £SO was handed over to the council for expenditure. It was also decided to make application to the Main Highways Board to declare the road a secondary highway. The county treasurer, Mr. 11. Lewis, in his monthly report, staled that payments for rates for the current, period amounted to £6021, as against £6324 for the. first 30 days of last year. About £I2OO of last year's arrears had also been received. Tho engineer. Mr. F. A. Stevens, in his report stated that considerable improvements had been effected to Kaimai Road and on the same road the concrete abutment. of Ruahihi Bridge had been completed and tho last of the steel girders placed in position. Arrangements had been made for repairs to Boulder Bridge, on Kaimai Road, which was in urgent need of attention. A crushing plant had been installed at Waitetohe, in the Katikati district, and was in operation. Good progress was lacing made with contracts in various parts of the county. The plans for metalling the first three miles of To Puke Road Tiad been approved. Tho council decided to proceed with the survey and formation of Turners Road, in the Wainui district, and also to call tenders for improving Mount Maunganui Road, and that, a motor-lorry be purchased for tbo To Puko riding.
