HERALD'S SPECIAL FORECAST.
SQUALLY WITH RAIN. Tlie following weather forecast for 24 hours from 7 a.m. to-day was_ supplied by Mr. H. M. Vincent last evening:— The new westerly storm area is moving on to the Dominion, and barometric pressure has decreased considerably over New Zealand. ' Expect unsettled and stormy weather, with rain in most districts, heavy in western areas. Thunderstorms are expected in places near the west coast, with some hail. Mild temperatures, tecoming colder. Rough and boisterous conditions are indicated, with northerly to northwesterly gales, backing temporarily to south-west. Heavy seas 011 tho west coast. Local outlook: Squally, with intermittent heavy rain, followed by a temporary improvement after about 12 hours. Barometer, midnight, falling .. 29.85 in. Midnight, Monday .. .. 30.20 in. Temperatures in shade yesterday (to midri'.rht)—Maximum, S3clcg.; Minimum, 54des.
GOVERNMENT REPORT. The Government meteorologist reported last evening as follows The depression referred to yesterday is now moving 011 to New Zealand, and pressure is rising again in eastern Australia. Indications arc for northerly winds, strong to galo force, backing to west and south-west in tlie morning in the far southern districts, and this change extending northward during the following 24 hours. Sens rough ori west coast and about Cook and Foveaux Straits; elsewhere moderate. Strong northerly winds to gales, backing gradually to south-west in (lie eastern Tasinan; seas rough.
