FIELDS AT RICCARTON.

LAST DAY OF CARNIVAL. STEAD GOLD CUP CONTEST. THE METROPOLITAN HANDICAP. Tho fourth day of the Canterbury Jockey Club's Metropolitan Meeting at Riccarton, which concludes the week's racing and trotting carnival in Christchurch, tukes place to-day. N ightmarch, who won the New Zealand Cup last Saturday and the Canterbury Cup on Wednesday, figures in the G. G. Stead Gold Cup field, and, if he is successful, he will repeat the performance last year of Chide, who was the first horse to win the three races. Concentrate, runner-up to Niglitmarch in the New Zealand Cup and Canterbury Cup, is an acceptor for the Metropolitan Handicap. Following are details of the fields:—

TAUMARUNUI ENTRIES. CLOSING TIME EXTENDED. The closing time of entries for the Taumnrunui Kacing Club's meeting on December 5 and C has been extended from next Monday until 5 p.m. next Tuesday. Entries may be made wit!) the secretary, Mr. S. Sarah, Taumarunui or Messrs. Blonifield nnd Company. Auckland. TE AWAMUTU MEETING. ENTRIES ON NOVEMBER 28. The programme for the Waipa Racing ; Club's annual meeting at Te Awamutu on December J3 is published in this issue. The principal event is the To Awamutu Cup, of £250. 1} miles, while the #>pon sprint race, the Flying Handicap, eix furlongs, carries a stake of £'lso. Other rapes are:—Pirongia Hurdles, of £125, 1J miles; Kihikihi Handicap, of £IOO, 7 fur.: Waipa Plate, of £IOO, C fur., weight-for-age, for horses who havo not won a race of the value of £SO at time of starting: Paterangi Handicap, of £IOO, 8} fur., minimum weight 8.0; Orakau Hack Handicap, of £IOO, I fur.; and the Oliaupo Handicap, of £IOO, 7 fur. Entries close at 5 p.m. on November 28 wiih the Secretary, Mr. J. G. Wynyard, Te Awamutu, or Messrs. Blomfieid and Company, Auckland. TRIAL STAKES CANDIDATES. ROSSHIRE AND KARANGAPAI. Notable among the candidates for the Trial Stakes at Te Kapa to-day ore the three-year-olds, Rosshire, Karangapai and Gold Duy, who have all shaped well in the comparatively small amount of racing they havo had up to the present. ltoßahire and Karangapai both have three seconds to their credit, and Gold Day also notched a second last season, when he was beaten by Foot liulo at To Aroha. On the form they have revealed tlieso three-year-olds should be quite capablo of showing up prominently in the moderate company they have to meet to-day and should nil be handy at the finish. As a result of his winter ami spring racing, Rosshire is better seasoned than cither ot the others, and that is going to be a distinct factor in his favour. However, Karangapai's track form has shown that he is well forward and lie mny be a very serious rival for the Takanini representative. Gold Day has not come under notice lately, but only requires to be ready t> bo dangerous also. ANTIQUE AND HAKANOA. CAMBRIDGE FORM RECALLED. When Antiquo bent Ilakanoa by n neck over six and a-linlf furlongs in the Bollnrd Memorial Handicap at Cambridge on Labour Day, he had an allowance of 2lb. in weight. In the Claudelands Highweight Handicap at Te Itapa to day Antique will be called upon to concedo Hakanoa 31b., so that under the altered terms and over the longer distance there may be little to choose between them. On the occasion of their meeting at Cambridge nakanoa was hampered by losing some ground nt the start nnd it was only in the last few strides that he was defeated after heading the leaders inside the distance. His performance was a pleasing one, but it was scarcely moro impressive than that of Antique, whose finishing run on the outside was full of determination, t'oii "V" Antique

may again prove superior to Hiikuitoii today, as ho looks an improved horso and has given evidence of being better at a mile than over shorter distances.
