DAMAGES FOR WIDOW.
SEQUEL TO HUSBAND'S DEATH JUDGMENT ENTERED FOR £1050: [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON. Friday. Judgment was entered to-day for plaintiff in the case in which the jury awarded Mrs. Rose May Blake £IOSO against Lawson John August as a result of the death of her husband, following a collision at Petone.
It was stated that the jury had made the award under the misapprehension that the insurance company would only pay up to £IOOO. Mr. Justice Reed said he was surprised that tho jury, having found for the plaintiff, had not awarded greater damages. He said no doubt it was a compromise verdict. Costs were fixed according to scale and His Honor certified for an extra day of trial at £ls 15s, with witnesses' expenses, disbursements and interrogatory proceedings.
