THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE. IMPROVEMENT IN MARKET. Although (ho actual volume of business recorded was not heavy, tho market for all sound securities on tho Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday was very firm. Any general movement was in the direction of slightly higher price lovels. In the gilt-edged section one salo took place, a parcel of 1936 per cent. New Zealand Inscribed Stock changing hands at £99 7s 6d, 2s 6d below the price at the previous sale a week ago.

Tho banking group experienced the quietest day for many weeks. No sales were put through in the section/although most shares met with a firm demand. Buyers of Commercials moved up 3d during tho day to close at 17s 3d, with sellers asking 17s 7d. Buyers of English, Scottish and Australians offered £5 9s, compared with £5 5s on Thursday. New Zealands were sought at 56s lid.

In tho insurance section New Zealands gained 6d to sell at 435. Buyers of South British offered 55s 3d, compared with 55s tho previous day, but sellers were not attracted

Farmers' Co-operative Auctioneering had their first salo this year. Buyers of Goldsbrough-Morts moved up Is on tho provious day's quotation to 22s 6d. Buyers of New Zealand Loan and Mercantilo Agency offered £7O, and sellers dropped £5 to £9O. The coal group was lifeless. Sellers of Pukemiros wcro Is easier at 455, with buyers at 40s. Auckland Gas were a little firmer. New Zealand Breweries sold at the current price of 465.

Only one sale was recorded in tho miscellaneous section, Electrolytic Zinc preference shares changing hands at 18s 2d, compared with 17s 9d in Christchurch on Thursday. Buyers of Australian Glass offered 27s 3d, compared with 26s on Thursday. British Tobaccos gained Is 3d during tho day. Colonial Sugars were very firm. Electrolytic Zinc ordinary shares were sought at 12s, compared with lis tho previous day. Oils were quieo with a wide margin between buyers' and sellers' ideas of value. Mount Lyolls gained 4d to sell at 20s Id.

They realised £1 each in the paddooks.
