UNEMPLOYMENT ACT.
EFFECT ON RELIEF WORKS. SUBSIDIES TO LOCAL BODIES. [by telegraph.—own correspondent.] WAIHI. Friday. Reference to relief works in Wailii and the effect the Unemployment Act might have 011 them was made by the Mayor, Mr. W. M. Wallnutt, at a meeting of the Waihi Borough Council last evening. Most of the money raisfcd locally for unemployment relief had been spent, said the Mayor, and the passing oi the Act had changed the whole position, leaving doubt as to how the council stood in the matter of Government subsidies on moneys set aside for works ahead. It, was decided to write to the Minister of Public Works and ask liiin to define the position.
