HERALD'S SPECIAL FORECAST. STORMY WITH RAIN. The following weather forecast for 48 hours from 7 a.m. to-day was supplied by Mr. 11. M. "Vincent last evening:— The extensive and energetic westerly storm area, which is located on tho southern Tasnjan Sea, is moving on to the Dominion and a cyclone is now developing south-westward of New Zealand. Stormy weather is expected in most districts during the week-end, with heavy rain, and thero are indications for a genoral rainfall, with rivers flooded in many places. Thunderstorms aro likely in places near the west coast. Northerly to northeasterly winds, strong to heavy galo, backing to south-west. Rough to heavy seas generally. Mild temperatures, but becoming colder after about 24 hours. Local outlook: Stormy, with heavy rain Thunder probable. Barometer, midnight, steady .. 29.85 in. Midnight, Thursday .. 29.701n. The, Government meteorologist reported last evening as follows:—A deep depression now covers the Tasman Sea, tho contro lino being near to tho south-west extremity of New Zealand. Barometers are rising over eastern Australia. Indications are for strong northerly winds to gales, backing later to west and south-west in the far south. Seas rather rough generally. Strong northerly winds in tho eastern Tasman Sea, backing to west and south-west in about 24 hours. Seas rough. Weather becoming unsettled generally, with some rain. Temperatures mild, but becoming cooler in the far south in >the morning. Unsettled weather probable during the week-end. RAINFALL RECORD.
