Mrs. Beaumont Smith left for Welling ton by the limited last evening. Mrs. J. Ramsay, of Sydney, is visiting Auckland and is staving at the Grand Hotel. Mrs. K. Vane, of London, is visiting Auckland and is staying at the Grand Hotel. Miss R. Eagle has returned to Auckland from a visit to Mrs. T. Webb, • Teinuka. Mrs. P. S. Crisp, of Eastbourne Road, Reinucra, is visiting Chrislchurch and Wellington. Mrs. K. F. Tlogan. of Maungakiekie Avenue, One Tree Hill, has left for a visit to Rotorua. Miss K. Gordon and ]\!iss Marjorio Ansonne are leaving to-day by the Uliinaroa for Sydney. Hie Rev. Wilna L. Constable has been ordered by her doctor to give up all public work for the next few months. The excellent music provided by the Ritz dance orchestra was thoroughly appreciated by tho many dancers present. A pleasing demonstration of the modern waltz and <pnckstep was gi\oT3 by Miss Grant and Mr. Wells, and Miss Berry and Mr. Johnson. The Monte Carlo waltz was won by Miss Cowley and Mr. Turner. The Henderson 'Dramatic Society presented an opera, " The Bosun's Bride," in tho Glen Eden Public Hall thi; week. Mr. W. N. Ingram wa: the conductor and Mrs. De Montalk the accompanist. The dances were arranged by Miss Noni De Montalk. The principals were Miss W. Parr, Miss E. Roberts, Miss R- Perkins, Mr. D. S. Allcly, Mr. S. Gallic, Mr. R. Allen, Mr. G. Allcly, Tho choruses and solos were well performed, and a humorous duet by Mis; R. Perkins and Mr. 11. Allen proved < very popular number. With a view to stimulating interest ii Plunket work and obtaining new sub scribcrs the Papakura committee of tin Plunket Society held a garden party oi Wednesday at the residence of the presi dent, Mrs. C. S. Beechcy. At the com meiicement of the afternoon Mr. Beeches introduced Mrs. W. 11. l'arkes, presiden of the Auckland society, who gave a brie resuino of modern Plunket work. Patients of ward No. 1, Auck land Hospital, spent a, very happj hour on Wednesday evening at concert arranged by Mrs. Raeburn ant Mr. A. Ilamblin. Madame Dunn was the accompanist Patients made a presentation to Madame Ed<vards, who is leaving the district, in appreciation of her kindness in giving so much of her time to cheer the sick. A meeting of the Henderson Methodist Women's Missionary Auxiliary was held on Wednesday, at which Mrs. Piatt presided. Mrs. Smet.hnrst and friends from Romuera, Epsom, Mount Eden, New Lynn, Glen Eden and Sister Nurse Edna White wcro welcomed, and Sister White spoke upon her work in hospital at tho Solomon Islands. Miss Brooks sang two solos. Mrs. Clark, from Mount Eden, gave, a short report of tho convention held at Napier and Mrs. Smet.hnrst spoko of her work as box organiser. It was reported that the school for training Maori girls will be opened at Onehunga shortly. Tea was served by Mrs. Piatt and Mrs. Barton. A humorous cantata entitled " The Doll's Wedding," and a variety programme sustained by children from the Mauurewa Children's Home was staged in the I'apaloetoo Town Hall. The llov. T. 11. Eccersall, of Otaliuhu, opened the proceedings, and tho programme was directed by the matron of the homo. Tho singing was very pleasing and was welt received by the audience. The boys gavo some very goud drill and action songs and similar items were given by the little girls. Recitations by Anona Murton, Mavis McGregor, Barney Snell and Joart and Arthur Chandler were also appreciated. A number of concerted items were given by the children, also an nction song by Peggy Butler and Willie Staylc, supported by a chorus of girls.
