HORSES AT TE RAPA.

RAIN CURTAILS WORK. PROSPECTS FOR TO-MORROW.. MERVETTE GALLOPS WELL. [by telegraph.-—own correspondent. J HAMILTON, Thursday.' With heavy rain falling all the morning, conditions could scarcely have been worse for training operations at Te Rapa to-day. Very little fast work was attempted, and several horses who were to' have been given their final gallops were let off with comparatively light tasks. The courso proper, with tho trestles out to the extreme outside, was open, and the going was soft. If the. wet weather continues, as it threatens, the track will be heavy for Saturday. Miss Albyii, who had the better of the start, was goiyg nicely alongside Black Maire at tho end of five furlongs run in 1.11 1-5. With an advanlago of well over a stone in the weights, Star Lap finished just ahead of An Tahi in running three furlongs ini--39 3-ss. The firßt-named, although rather green as yet, hit out boldly and shows, promise. Indolent was a eliade in front of First; Lap, with Star Comet some little distance away, at tho conclusion of five furlongs in 1.11 3-5. Glena Bay and Holly Holm finished on terms after encompassing five furlongs in'.' 1.12 2-5. ' . Mervetle went away from tho seven-fur-. long post to a moving start, and, accompanied over the last four furlongs by Stonehenge, came homo strongly in 1.37. Musquin was of no uso to Rita's Lightover four furlongs in 555, Hakanoa and Uneca started off together' for a five-furlong trial, but the ridur of the first-named lost an iron after they had. gone two furlongs, which occupied 2855, and Unoco. without being pushed, completed, the full distance on his own in 1.15. Day Guide galloped four furlongs in; 55 3-ss. Cruachan and Trig both handled th* going well in executing serviceable tasks, followed by a sprint up the straight. Paganelli finished up a strong workifltf' gallop with a sharp jprint in the straight.. Unless the track dries up he will not start on Saturday. Ruby Dawn and Lupin Abbey worked strongly together over o distance, but were not timed. The first-named bears a very bright appearance. Mosque and King Win worked in pleasing style, but were not after time. . * Arch Eagle and Pendavies went four fur- . longs together, but were not asked to go really fast. Both, however, hit out nicely. Additional riding engagement# for Saturday are as follows: A. Tinker.—Pegaway, Mosqu# and Kaha, H. Goldfinch.—Mervette. A. Bentley.—King Win, TuroDgo and Persham. J.
