ANNUAL ROSE SHOW. FINE DISPLAY OF BLOOMS, j A largo number of Auckland's finest blooms was displayed at ilio second annual rose show of All Saints' Church, which was opened in (ho church hall yesterday. The show was not confined to roses, and many beautiful flowers, including irises, stocks, Iceland poppies and pansies, combined to mako the display ono of much beauty. The. flowers were contained on two long stand?, which occupied tlio centre of the floor, on ono being placed the prize-winning roses and oilier roso entries. At llio end of this stand were pot plants, the exhibits of maidenhair fern being particularly fine. On tho opposite tablo were Iceland poppies, irises and stocks, surrounded on each side by smaller vases of pansies and anemones. Attracting particular notico on this tablo was a gold basket filled with sweet peas in varying shades of mauve. The show was declared open by (ho Countess of Orford, who congratulated the competitors on the beautiful display of flowers. She was presented with a lovely bouquet of crimson roses, and her daughter, / Lady Ann Walpole, and her niece, Miss Poppy Oakes, who accom- ! panied her, received posies of sweets from two tiny members of the Sunday School. Best white roso: Miss McKinstry. Best red rose: Mrs. Ponsford. Best pink rose: Mrs. Cole, 1; Mrs. McKinstry, 2. Best bowl of cut flowers: Mrs. Ponsford, 1; Mrs. Cole, 2. Best ladies' spray: Miss Felton. Gentleman's buttonhole: Miss Fulton. Best decorated basket: Miss E. Ball. BeHt, banning basket, maidenhair fern: Mrs. Anderson.
