PROSPECTS REVIEWED.

FINAL FOR THE CUP.

WRACKLER AND KOHARA.

NEW ZEALAND DERBY.

[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] CIIRISTCHURCH. Wednesday.

Tho Now Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club's Spring Meeting will be continued nt Addington to-morrow, when the principal attractions will be provided in the final for tho Cup, in which eight of the best horses in New Zealand are engaged, nnd in the New Zealand Derby, which will bo contested by 10 high-grade three-year-olds. Tho division of the Cup provided sensational racing and tho sport in tho final should bo all the moro interesting as a result. As to whether Logan Park nnd Wracklcr can bent Kohara and Terence Dillon has been the general topic of conversation, and there is not a horse in that raco that can be written out. "What will be favourite is a Question, and the betting should bo the most even registered since tho Cup trial at Wellington 12 months ago. Arethusa may stand out as an exceptional three-year-old, but there are nine owners willing to test tho abilities of their own horses against Mr. IT. F. Nicoll's crack filly. White Satin's Chances. White Satin's display on the opening day need not be taken as a true indication of her form, and she is bound to race better in the Whitelbtah Handicap. Surprise Journey won so well on the first day that ho must again be given a great chance. Young Carbine, too, is right at, the top of his form, and All Peters may improve on his previous performance. The result should rest between White Satin, Surprise Journey and All Peters. * Harold Logan's brilliant performanco in tho Oamarn Handicap last month draws attention to his prospects in tho Courtenay Handicap, and it .is hard to select oiio to beat him. A fine pacer, he must take a lot of beating. Erin' 3 Fortune looks a picture and her performances warrant strong support .for her. Neeoro, too, is useful, and Grar.d Light may improve on his first day's showing. Harold Logan should lead tho field home, while his most formidable opponents may bo Grand Light and Erin's Fortune. Ten well-bred three-year-olds will take their places in tho New Zealand Derby, and on public form Arethusa stands in a class by herself. Four wins out of five starts suggests her as something above the average, and she will go out a very warm ourito. She will be bracketed with Hying Cloud. Form ol Rawhitiroa. Rawhitiroa, next to Arethusa, has shown the best public form, and ho was responsible for an especially smart eflort over a mile and a-half at Addington Inst week. Checkers is another good sort, and Clienaway's win at Wellington showed him as a smart pacer. Neither Gold Chips nor Colorado appeals, and tho final result should bo between -Arethusa, Chenaway and Checkers. The Cup final will be the big event of the day, and there is the greatest interest in the race. The divisions run on Tuesday gavo a good lino as to the form, but too much notice should not be taken of the times registered. Wracklcr and Kohara both won like really good stayers, while Logan Park's late run in the second division was something worth remembering. Ihe race should improve him a good deal, and it would not be surprising to find him favourite on tho day. Wrackler is such a good, honest pacer, that ho must again run a. great race, and Kohara a i.2l for two miles speaks for iteelf. Author Jinks lost a lot of ground at the start, and then ran a great race, and Terence Dillon, if he improves, will cause trouble." King Pointer is 'fancied "by bis connections, and, in what looks like the most open race on tho programme, the places may bo filled by Lognn Park, Wrackler, Kohara nnd King Pointer. \ The November Handicap. Nelson do Oro's running on tho opening day will not be lost sight of by those on tho look-out for a winner November Handicap. 0(T 12yds, 110 will be afforded a rare opportunity. Aleron may be benefited by his raco on tho first day, and Wrackeen, Arikitoa, Steel All and Avenger may be troublesome. Nelson do Oro, Wrackeen and Aleron should fill tho places. The Scottish-bred horso Our George will make his first appearance at an Addington raco meeting in the Metropolitan Handicap. He ia a fine pacer and has done good work in his training. Apt-x and Tarndale are other useful pacers engaged.

If reserved for the Sockburn Handicap Surprise Journey will command strong "support and the class does not look beyond him. New Metford and Writer should prove the best of the remainder. / Numerous withdrawals from the sprinters' handicap have left only a small field to contest this rnce, and Carmel raced so well c:n the opening day that his chance must again bo considered. The issue, however, may be fought between Great Logan, Jewel Pointer and Carmel. John Jinks had none the better of the running on the opening day of tho Metropolitan meeting, for he got into a bad position early and was forced to cover a lot of extra, ground. In tho Metropolitan Handicap to-morrow the. field will be smaller and he will be given a better chance. He is in good order and at his best he is a good slayer The best has not .vet been Been of him. The Sprinters' Handicap. i Kohara and Jewel Pointer, two that have qualified for fho New Zealand Cup final, are engaged later in the day in the Sprinters' Handicap. With a email field engaged both will be given a chance to pay expenses should they fail in their more important mission. ChonawaM. a good typo of three-year-old by Peter Chenalt. from Runaway, will be making his second public appearance when he contests the New Zealand Derby. At Wellington ho won like a really good racehorse and he is certain to win good races, even if he fails to beat Arethusa in tomorrow's classic. There is no more deceptive looking pacer in Now Zealand to-day than Wrackler and the fnct that he was hard driven to win tho second division of tho New Zealand Cud on Tuesday should not lose him any friends for his engagement to-day. Ho is a lazy worker and has to be hard driven before he will give of his best, but under a hard drive it is a question whether any horse can hold his speed longer. Ho is one of the frameat pacers racing at present and has excellent breeding as a backing for his exceptional speed and stamina. CLAUDELANDS JOTTINGS. PROMISING COLT BY METAL. The Claudelaudo trotting track is in excellent ordqr for training operations, but for some time past there have been very few horses in work at that centre. However, there has been a mild revival lately and it is probable that a good number of horses will bo located thero in tho near futuro. Still another woman lifcs entered tho ranks of owners, Mrs. H. M Row having acquired Bingen Bell, a frotter by a Nelson Bingen colt from Bell Bingen. Bingen Bell is being prepared by \V. Stephens. J. G. Browne is keeping Wild Downs and Roto going in view of country fixtures later on. Ho is not persevering with Huapere, who is again in the paddock. C. Lowe has Limosa in steady work and tho speedy pacer should bo back to form for Christmas meetings. W. Webb has leased Black Pearl and her three-year-old Metal colt from Mr. M. McIntyre. Webb has put both the mare and colt into work, and the latter is a promising youngster Mr. J. T. Young'» mare Incleraenl has produced ft foal to Nelson Bingen.
