While he was shaving a customer, a tobacconist, Lindsay Wright, heard a movement in tho front of the shop. Ho looked around in time to sec a young man, who had reached over the counter and quietly opened a drawer, seize a cigar-box which contained about £l6. " Stop thief," shouted Mr. Wright, and clinscd the man as he dnshed from tho shop. The runaway discarded the cigar-box, but retained the money. Mr. Wright was out-distanced, and when hp secured a taxi-cab there \va,s no sign of tho fugitive. A hurried! tour of the locality resulted in the thief being seen again, and the' chaso was resumed fiercely. Just when it seemed that Mr. Wright would capture the man he was flung from tho footboard of the taxi-cab. Later on, after ho had rushed through several backyards and had doubled on his tracks to outwit his pursuers, the thief was' seen again. Mr. Wright, the taxi-driver, and.at least eight pedestrians were hot on his trail when he finally disappeared, leaving his pursuers almost exhausted.
