ROTORUA NOTES.
TENNIS CLUB OPENING. The' official opening of the Rotorua Lawn Tennis Club took place on Saturday afternoon. Tho weather was inclined to bo showery, but this in no way hindered tho play. Tho president of the club, Air. R. G. Bennett, formally declared tho courts open for play and tho members took part in a progressive tournament, tho wirjners of which were Aliss Stevens and Air. Edwards. Aftornoon tea was served by the ladios of tho committee, after which Dr. S. HI. Hay, on behalf of the members, presented Mr. and Airs. R. G. Bennett with a casserolo in a silver stand. Air. and Airs. Bennett aro leaving Rotorua shortly to live in Auckland, and the members wished in some small way to show their appreciation of tho services of Mr. Bennett as president of the club, and Mrs. Bennett as a most activo member of the committee for some ,timo past. Ordinary play was continued for tho rest of tho afternoon. Croquet Olub Opening. Mrs, Blencowe, president of the Rotorua Croquot Club, welcomed the Alayoress, Airs. T. Jackson, members, friends and visiting members to the opening of tho croquot season, after which she called upon' Airs. Dyson, the honorary secretary, to play tho first ball. The season was thrjn declared open. Progressive croquet was played, the following being tho results:—A grade, Mrs. Hogan, 1; Mrs. La Trobo Hill 2. B grade, Airs. Heley, 1; Airs. Herd, 2. Tho prizes for tho events wcro donated by Alesdames Blencowo, Cohnle, Nesbitt and Lloyd. Afternoon toa was served in tho Kiosk, after which the president askod the patron of tho club, Airs. Clinkard, to present tho prizes won during tho afternoon.
