MISSIONARY BISHOP.
ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH. WORK IN THE SOLOMONS. One of the youugest bishops in the Roman Catholic Church, Dr. T. J. Wade, who was recently consecrated Bishop of the North Soloijion Islands, arrived at Auckland by the Marama yesterday on a short visit to the Dominion before returning to take up his work in the mission field. Bishop Wade, who is only 37 years of age, is a member of the Marist order. Archbishop Redwood, one of the veteran bishops of the church, is a member of that order. Bishop Wade has been engaged in missionary work in the Solomon Islands for the last seven years. In his diocese there are 23 priests, the youngest being Father Mac Hardy, a New Zealander. About two-fifths of the territory under his charge had not yet been touched either by Government or missionaries, lie said, but the work was rapidly extending. The Solomon Islands were rich in mineral deposits and would probably increase in importance as development work proceeded. Bishop Wade paid a tribute to the work of the Australian Government in establishing medical clinics in its mandated territory in the Solomons. Natives were trained to treat thoir fellow villagers for ordinary tropical complaints and were giving fine service.
