TO-DAY'S PUBLICATION. FINE PICTORIAL SECTION. MANY TOPICAL FEATURES. As a complete record of the week's news in pictures, the illustrated section in the current issue of the Auckland Weekly News would be difficult to surpass. Topical photographs are attractively combined with travel pictures and scenic gems to make the number of outstanding interest. The publication is on sale to-day. The centre double-page illustrates the new highway through the Urewera Country to Lake Waikaremoana. The road is one of New Zealand's finest scenic motoring routes' and was opened to traffic last week. The New Zealand golf championship meeting at Palmerston North last week is the subject of an interesting full-page. Another full-page features New Zealand's world-famous trout fishing at Taupo and shows some of the fine catches secured on the opening days of the new season. An arresting photograph of a special squadron of Royal Air Force fighting aeroplanes flying in perfect formation while roped together is reproduced on the frontispiece. Photographs secured with the party of New Zealand and American scientists who recorded the recent solar eclipse on the lonely island of Niuafou are combined to make a highly interesting page. A new series from North Auckland showing activities on the kauri gumfields is also included in the number. The remaining pages of the issue are devoted to an extremely varied collection of topical and scenic photographs secured 'at home and abroad. The following list of outstanding subjects will give some idea of the remarkably diverse nature of the illustrations: —The Governor-General and Lady Bledisloe at the Wairarapa Show; annual secondary schools' sports at Christchurcb; the modern British Army; accident to Now Zealand Air Force seaplane at Auckland; horse-racing in Australia; renewed activities on the Taranaki oilfields; women's topics; in New Zealand's wonderful fiordland; and Wing-Commander Kingsford Smith's great flight.
