WOOL SALES PRICES.

LONDON SERIES CLOSED. REVIEW OF THE MARKET. LONDON, Oct. 7. At the London wool sales 9081 bales were offered, including 3392 from New Zealand, and about 4180 were sold. The sales have been closed. Prices were unchanged from the recent level. Compared with the July closing prices Merinos anfl best combings were fully maintained and prices for faulties and inferiors declined sto per cent., for carbonising sorts 15 per cent., for scoureds, good, 10 to 15 per cent., for faulties and inferiors, 20 per cent. Crossbreds were all weaker, halfbreds, 10 per cent.; slipes, halfbred, 15 per cent.; short and faulty, 15 to 20 per cent. Lambs were neglected at 10 to 20 per cent. down. The market has been hesitant throughout, but at the lower level the competition has been quite good. A total of 164,000 bales was catalogued, and 56,500 were sold to the home trade, 70,500 to the Continent, 1000 to the United States. A further 75,000 bales have been held, of which 53,000 were not offered. The total of Australian bales sold was 56,000 and the total of New Zealand 55,000.

As compared with tho closing rates of the last sales prices are lower about 10 per cent, to 15 per cent., for greasy Merino inferior, lambs' Merino, scoured Merino super, fine crossbred slipe, fine greasy crossbred; about 15 per cent, to 20 per cent, for scoured crossbred, scoured Merino medium, coarse crossbred slipe, scoured Merino inferior, medium crossbred slipe; about 5 per cent, for greasy Merino super; about 7\ percent, to 10 per cent, for greasy Merino medium; about 15 per cent, for crossbred lambs, medium greasy crossbred, coarse greasy crossbred; about 25 per cent, for crossbred slipe inferior. The prices realised for average to super grades of descriptions as below were as follows: —Super Merino, lljd to 13-J,d; average. 9d to lid ; crossbred, 56 to 58, 10(1 to 12d; 50 to 56. 9jri to lid; 48 to 50, BJd (o 10] d; 46 to 48, Bjd to 9Jd; 44 to 46, 8d to 9d; 40 to 44, 7Jd to 8;} d; 36 to 40, 7£d to Bid.

SERIES AT SYDNEY. MARKET GENERALLY FIRM. i (Received October 8, 11.5 p.m.) SYDNEY, Oct. 8. At the Sydney wool sales to-day 10,985 bales were offered, of which 10,748 were sold. Also 223 bales were disposed of privately. There was an improved demand by Japan and Yorkshire. The market was firm for all wools of average quality. Greasv Merino brought up to 15£ d.
