PROPOSED NEW WHARF. U N EMPLOYMENT REL IEF. The Birkenhead Borough Council met last evening, the Mayor. Mr. ,J. 1 . McRhail, presiding. The supei intendeut ot the Auckland Harbour Board, Mr. 11. B. Burnett, wrote, in reply (o tho council's inquiry, that Hie chairman had no objection to the council conferring with the board's engineer in connection with the proposed wharf at Little Shoal Ray. A coiderence with the, engineer is to be arranged accordingly. The I.oral Government. Loans 'Board advised' that investigations were being made in connection with the application for permission to borrow £3500 without a poll for unemployment relief. Tie- Birkenhead Ex servicemen's Association wrote that a fund had been -lilted for the employment of ex-service-men at I'irl-.enhead, and this would be vested in the Mayor and town clerk and /lie president and secretary of the association. It v.as hoped that the funds collected would be subsidised in the usual wav. and devoted I" the employment of e.\- .-ervicemeti. a roll of whom would be kept, 'flic council decided to subsidise all s111:ireceived from this source pound for pound.
