Considerable reductions in the charges for current were decided upon at a meeting of the Central Electric-Power Board to-day. The charge for lighting was reduced from Sd to 7d per unit, representing .1 total reduction of £IBOO. Meter rents, p&timated to produce £365, were abolished for ranges and motors. It. was decided that (he minimum charges for lighting and for beating and cooking be reduced from 5s to 3s 9d a month, and that one. minimum charge of ss, covering lighting, heating and cooking, be made on the same connections of the board's line. Mr. J. J. Ryburn raised the question whether the Government intended to proceed with the erection of the large standby steam plant at Huntly and asked whether the board, in the event of the proposed plant being abandoned, would be in a position to guarantee sufficient power to consumers next year. It. was decided to ask the Government's intentions in the matter.

Tho secretary was instructed to write to tho Local Government Loans Board objecting to tho undue delay in proceeding with tho reticulation of the Raglan area, recently added to (lie board's district, and asking for finality in tlio matter. Tho engineer reported that the. tender of £IOO2 by Metropolitan-Vickers Electrical Company, Limited, for the supply of transformers for the 11,000-volt, extensions to the Glen Afton Collieries and Waikato Carbonisation, Limited, had been accepted.
