DONALD'S TEAM. j A pleasing-feature of ,fho entries received for tho Waikato Trotting Club's spring (Exturo at Claudelands next month is the number of horses eneaged- from other parts of the Dominion. Tho liberal support accorded from Canterbury, Taranaki and Manawatu" demonstrates the popularity fof the meeting with owners outside .the: Auckland province. " ' • When 0. VS. Donald-visited 1 the "Waikato Trotting Club's Spring Meeting last . October and captured the . double with Lindbergh and Pearl Logan, he announced that - " he would become a regular patron of .Claude* lajid'a fixtures. The . Canterbury? trainierroinsman returned to Hamilton for ihe autumn meeting with Morning Sun, Pearl Logan and Brook Pointer, when Brook Pointer was returned a winner and Morning Sun put up a great fight in the principal event, to suffer a narrow defeat by Warplane. That Donald intends being present at Hamilton again next .month is shown by the number of entries he has forwarded to tho club. His nominations include Automatic, Author Franz, Sunny Bob, Dilnon, and Brook Pointer, and with such a soirnd combination the southerner should have a successful trip north.

W. Hughes, the Longburn trainer, has a useful team entered, comprising Gang Awa', Bingen .Crest, Tamahine and Caballero. Caballero is a promising young trotter, who will do well as tho season advances. Last season Bingen Crest was a classy two-year-old and scored three successive victories in her last three starts. H. Garnett, who hails' from Ashhurst, is represented' in tho entry list by Bonniewahf Lady Jewel, and the solid trotter Audo Spray, who won well both at Auckland and Ashhurst last season.

J. R. Corrigan, the Hawera owner, has a useful trio nominated in Richore, Queen Elizabeth and Bon Bingen. The lastnamed is a fair sort of trotter, while over middle distances Queen Elizabeth has «piet with a good measure of success.* The disappointing Richore last season was placed in several' essays, his best showing being when he followed Gang Awa' home in the Cambridge • Gup. -The preaenoo of so many visiting horses will lend additional' interest to the Waikato fixture.' • NEW ZEALAND TROTTING J CUP. RECORD ENTRIES LIKELY; * [By- TELEGRAPH.—OWN COBBESPONDENT. ] CHRISTCHDRCH, "Wednesday. TROTTING AT .TAURANGA.. ; KEENER INTEREST IN SPORT. " Although, there ; Ms not ,bceu .much interest in trotting at Tauranga in. past years the now season has marked au,improvement, • iCnd Beveral young horses are being educated with & view to competing later at country meetings. ■■ : T. Cooper is working a promising young trotter by Tho Dcsign r own- brother to The Triumph, and the imported youngster is already. attracting the attention of good judges in the Tauranga district. Cooper is a lover of the sauare-eaited horses, and bred Peter, who caused a big surprise as a two-year-old at Cam--bridge, when he spread-eagled a field of older and. experienced trotters. The Peter Moko gelding, did not take lone to make good at the business and last season, as a four-year-old, reached the highest company. Also at Tauranga is H. Long, who formerly owned and trained Concertina at Epsom. Ho has a nice filly by Sonoma Harvester, while Alice Axworthy, a • daughter of Worthy Bond, is another of his charges. As a two-year-old Alico Axworthy showed a lot of promise, and possessed a. torrent of speed over a short course, but she went amiss after racing unsuccessfully in Australia and Auckland. Tho young Worthy Bond mare was then mated with Wrack, to whom she produced a fine foal. Long is making a good recovery from the accident in which he -jva3 .involved a few months ngo,. and wifflfecon bo fit to give his team solid work. ™ The aged trotter Gold Star is in regular work again, and looks like standing tip to another preparation; If he does he should prove useful on tho country circuit.
