ARMED MEN IN SHOP.
OWNER ROBBED OF £25. CROWD LETS BANDITS ESCAPE. Two armed men committer] a robbery in a Sydney street on a recent morning and reaped with £25. Mr. r>. Campbell had just entered his shop when a revolver was thrust against his back by one of the men, who had followed him inside. Kvidently the robbers had wjalched Mr. Campbell and planned thu robbery, for no sooner had he entered his smallgoods shop than they followed him. Mr. Campbell walked diiectly to the light switches, and when he reached them he was challenged. Simultaneously with the thrust of the revolver against him the taller of the men said, "Put up your hands. We want your money." Mr. Campbell replied that his money was in the till, but the men seized him and went through his pockets, finding ahont £25. The bandits had provided themselves with a roil of rope to bind their victim and allow time to escape. When they hat! searched the till they attempted to tie Mr. Campbell with the rope, but the shopkeeper struggled. Suddenly flinging him to the floor they ran outside, and Mr, Campbell followed, calling for help as he ran. The fugitives noticed him and ran desperately through the densely peopled streets near the Central Railway Station. Hundreds of people saw the chase, and some even shouted advice. However, no one offered to help. Mr. Campbell was exhausted and at last had to let them escape.
